Enniscorthy is in Southeast Ireland on the River Slaney.

Stone at base of cross reads:  "In proud and grateful remembrance of Father John Murphy who led the brave men of North Wexford and died with them for the sacred cause of civil and religious liberty, in the insurrection of 1798.  This monument is erected by the people of this parish of Ferns his birthplace.
