On the trip from Lake Bled to the Adriatic Sea we made a stop at
the most famous cave in Europe. The Postojna Cave is second in
size only to Mammoth Cave in Kentucky.
We arrived just before the opening of the cave. Almost
immediately other tour buses and tourists from other countries
arrived. The cave tour was about 90 minutes. We entered on
the cave train that travels about 2 km inside the cave. An
English speaking guide was waiting to explain the history and sites we
were looking at.
The highlights of the different areas are outlined on the photo
page. We were not allowed to take photos, but I managed a few in
the dim light. We actually were allowed to see about 5½ km of
the 20 km cave. We were about 70 meters (210 feet) underground
at the deepest point.
We had lunch at a local restaurant
before continuing the trip to the Adriatic coast.
