henna:  Henna is the leaves of a small shrub that thrives in the desert climate of the surrounding Draa Valley. It is periodically watered and grows during the excessive heat of summer. In the late fall, henna is harvested; stripped from the bush and dried.  Although a green leaf, when powdered and mixed with water and made into a paste, henna provides a warm brown-red dye that is used to lighten and color hair. Moroccan women (and tourists) also use henna to draw designs upon their palms and feet.
