One of many fossils stores
Midelt lies at the foot of the J'bel Ayachi and is cold in the winter, at an altitude of 1,488 meters, and windswept at all times.  It has been essentially a mining town attracting a mixed population.  It is also a horticultural center, concentrating on apples.  The youth of the town seem to live off selling semi-precious (or fake semi-precious) stones and fossils to the passing tourists.
