Antalya

The main city along the Mediterranean coast, Antalya is a major seaside resort with a beautiful harbor. It is sometimes referred to as the Turkish Riviera.  Still standing on the cliffs which surround Antalya are the ancient city walls and ramparts built by the Greeks.  The population is about 500,000.  Many homes in the area have solar hot water heaters on roofs.  Most houses and apartments are less than 5 years old.  Main industry is tourism (mostly German and Russian).  Surrounding mountains with many waterfalls, rafting, and golf courses.

"Turkuaz" was the word created in Turkish to describe the intense blue and green color of the Mediterranean and Aegean Seas. This same color was adopted into the English language as "turquoise."

In this magic land, you'll almost feel as if time has stood still. Especially if you visit some  of the nearby ancient sites such as Aspendos, Side and Perge. Many of the remains of these prosperous Greco-Roman cities are exhibited in the Antalya Museum, from an endless parade of statues of Greek gods and emperors to the 2nd century sarcophagus excavated in Perge depicting Hercules and his 12 labors.

Town square was above the harbor where we walked past many restaurants.  The public Park was across the street from the museum.  There was a beautiful Sunset that evening.
